China audits internal supervision finance management in debt clean-up

BEIJING (Reuters) ? China released a extensive comment of the debts of its internal governments on Monday and barred those entities from borrowing any further, receiving its initial inaugural step to revoke the risk of default and instability in the world?s second-largest economy.

Releasing its initial review of internal supervision debt, which amounts to twenty-seven percent of the economy, China?s arch state auditor Liu Jiayi said efforts would be made to clean up and umpire internal supervision financing vehicles and the approach would be formed on the sort of debt.

Prostate cancer patients in general, but most especially men receiving androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), experience symptoms? and side effects of treatment that make it difficult to maintain their independence and quality of life. A recent review states that exercise may offset many of the side effects of ADT as well as those of the cancer itself.

Keogh and Mcleod conducted a systematic review of the English-language literature and were able to identify 12 training studies designed to evaluate whether exercise could reduce symptoms and improve quality of life for prostate cancer patients and which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria for their review.

The key findings of the review can be listed a follows:

• Grade A level evidence exists for the benefits of exercise in improving muscular endurance, aerobic endurance, and overall quality of life, and for reducing fatigue in prostate cancer patients.
• Grade B level evidence further suggests that exercise may improve prostate cancer patients? muscle mass, muscular strength, functional performance (walking and sit to stand speed), and their health-related, social and physical quality of life.
• The effects identified appear to be greater for group-based as compared to home-based exercise initiatives, especially if the programs are designed to include resistance training.

The authors conclude that most prostate cancer patients should be encouraged to exercise regularly by their clinicians and and by their significant others. To the extent that this is possible, such exercise should be group-based and should include some resistance training.

Keogh and Mcleod also suggest that research on the impact of exercise on prostate cancer outcomes and quality of life should directly compare group- and home-based exercise, as well as resistance, aerobic, and combined resistance and aerobic training to discover which are the most effective forms of exercise for this population and what factors affect initiation and adherence to such programs.

How I Beat the Baby Blues - For Women

When Karen was born, Steve and I were elated. Karen was our first girl born after three boys. In my 6th month of pregnancy we started to prepare for our ?Little Princess? Karen?s room was painted pink; we bought frilly dresses and socks and replaced all our ?used? baby items such as the highchair and crib.

After Karen was born, I was in heaven dressing up my ?Little Princess? and taking her out to show her off. But all that lasted for two months. Then the depression set in?

Everything stopped being fun. I started to worry excessively about Karen. Karen?s three brothers were jealous of all her special attention and started acting up. Karen was a fussy baby and didn?t sleep well at night. And I hadn?t lost even one pound since Karen was born (I actually gained).

I was becoming a real wreck! I guess it was a mixture of the lack of sleep and the hormones that were acting up. Luckily, my husband is a real angel and picked up a lot of the slack on what I wasn?t doing. Steve did all the laundry. He managed to throw together meals (lucky my boys all like peanut butter sandwiches.) We lined up a babysitter to come stay with the boys between school and Steve?s return from work, but I wouldn?t let her ever change or hold Karen.

Steve knew that I needed professional help but I wouldn?t agree to leave Karen in order to meet with a therapist. So Steve went to meet with the therapist. Through Dr. Gelber, Steve quickly understood what my problem was. The build up to Karen, our ?Princess?, had been too great and when everything didn?t work out perfect (the boys reactions, Karen?s all night crying and my excessive weight), I couldn?t handle the situation.

He understood that the important thing was to give me back my feeling of my worth. I had always been a very active person and now Karen was my whole life now. I needed my identity back.

Steve and Dr. Gelber decided that I needed to start exercising, but how? I wouldn?t leave Karen with anyone so when would I have time to myself for myself to exercise? I had always like jogging. I had to stop when I was 4 months pregnant.

Then Steve had a great idea. Without even consulting with me, Steve went out and bought a jogging stroller (he bought a Joovy Zoom 360 ? I think he just ?grabbed? the first stroller he saw, but it turned out to be perfect). At first I refused to look at it but Steve was determined and sneaky. First he dressed up Karen, sat her in the stroller and started taking pictures. I couldn?t resist. I just had to go out with her and show her and her stroller off. Then he started sending me on errands with Karen in her new stroller. Each day the errands got further and further until I found myself trotting with Karen in her stroller.

The story has a very happy ending. Slowly our daily ?trots? turned into ?daily jogs.? I started to shed those extra pounds and feel better about myself. Karen started to sleep through the night ? Maybe that?s just because she was getting older but I think it was all that fresh air. The daily exercise gave me more energy. I even started to have more energy and patience for our boys so they no longer felt neglected and they returned to their sweet selves.

I am forever grateful to that jogging stroller and how it saved our family from a possible disastrous post partum depression, but most of all I am grateful to Steve who identified the problem and didn?t give up till he had a solution that worked.

Higher card use, better payments lift Discover 2Q (AP)

NEW YORK ? Discover Financial Services on Thursday said its profit more than tripled in its fiscal second quarter as it added new customers, while existing customers used their cards more and got better about making payments on time.

For the three months ended May 31, the Riverwoods, Ill.-based credit card company said net income available to common shareholders rose to $593 million, or $1.09 per share, compared with $185 million, or 33 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.

That far outpaced the average analyst expectation for earnings of 75 cents per share, according to data provided by FactSet.

Its shares rose 35 cents, or 1.5 percent, to $23.94 in afternoon trading. The stock has changed hands between $13.33 and $25.76 in the past 52 weeks, and is now up almost 30 percent since the start of the year.

Discover said sales volume on its namesake cards rose 9 percent during the quarter to $24.84 billion. That gain reflected new customers, more card use by existing customers and 8 percent growth in the number of merchants that accept its cards.

In an interview, CEO David Nelms said the newly signed retailers accounted for some of the gains, but acknowledged that they mostly represent smaller stores. Larger nationwide retailers that already accepted Discover accounted for a "fair amount of growth," he said.

"We saw a nice uptick this quarter in sales growth," he said, noting that it came as gas prices moderated a bit. "I attribute that gain to more new accounts and more marketing efforts."

The company's transaction processing networks saw an 18 percent volume jump, handling $71.62 billion in purchases during the quarter. The number of transactions on the Pulse network increased 25 percent. Nelms said that reflected "huge growth" in debit transactions, which topped 1 billion for the first time during the quarter.

Meanwhile, payments that were late by 30 days or more dropped to a 25-year low of 2.79 percent of balances on an annualized basis, compared to 4.85 percent a year earlier.

Unpaid balances written off as uncollectible, known as charge-offs, dropped to 5.01 percent of balances, or $577 million, from 8.56 percent, or $1 billion, last year.

Keefe, Bruyette & Woods analyst Sanjay Sakhrani said those metrics were better than expected, reflecting strong performance for student loans and personal loans. "How much better can charge-offs get?" he asked. "I'm sure there's still some room for improvement."

Nelms, during a conference call to discuss results, said he didn't expect charge-offs to drop as low as late payments. That's in part because charge-offs include accounts held by individuals who declare bankruptcy, and those accounts are not always past due. Bankruptcies are flattening out, Nelms said, and increasingly the filings Discover receives include accounts that are already written off, but the issue will tend to keep charge-offs higher. "We're certainly seeing improvements in those areas as well, just not as fast."

The improved payment results allowed the company to release $401 million from its reserves set aside to cover unpaid bills. Stifel Nicolaus analyst Chris Brendler noted that was the main reason for the improved results.

During the call, Discover executives said they are likely to release additional reserves in coming quarters as delinquencies and defaults continue to fall.

Discover reported a 5 percent increase in total loans to $52.5 billion. Most of that increase came from loans acquired with its recent purchase of The Student Loan Corp. Brendler said student loan growth was slightly slower than expectations. However he added that the quarter is typically not a strong one for student lending, and it's a newer business for Discover.

The company said its expenses rose 25 percent from last year, which reflected higher spending on marketing and advertising, higher labor costs, higher expenses related to recovering defaulted accounts, increased fraud costs and expenses related to The Student Loan Corp.

Discover also mentioned an increased reserve for various pending lawsuits, but didn't detail how much it set aside.

Overall, Brendler said the report showed good trends for Discover's business lines, but little stood out for the quarter. "It's hard to find anything that was actually negative," he said.

Health Workshop: South Maui Events and Real Estate: Homes in Wailea

The?Office on Aging in the County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns will be sponsoring a workshop called "Better Choices...Better Health," (BCBH) which includes six sessions on promoting healthier living that can be achieved when dealing with chronic diseases.

The workshop will begin on July 8th, and people of all ages are encouraged to join in and learn how to incorporate healthier habits into their lives, or the lives of those they know who struggle with chronic diseases.

The information presented in the series includes learning how to implement practical skills related to relaxation, nutrition, communication, medication management, and exercise, to name a few. Participants will also create "action plans" with achievable goals that will help facilitate confidence and the improvements they want to make. They will also receive an audio relaxation CD called Time for Healing, and Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, 3rd Edition.

The workshop only costs $10 for those who are 60 and over, and $35 for participants under 60.
